What We Believe
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church (IELC) was established in 1911. IELC is a member congregation of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, a conservative, confessional Lutheran church body.
As Confessional Lutherans, we adhere to the Lutheran Confessions, found in the Book of Concord. We focus particularly on Luther's Small Catechism as a succinct summary of the Christian Faith.
The teachings of the Lutheran Church are often summarized in three phrases: Scripture Alone, Grace Alone and Faith Alone.
Scripture Alone - We believe the entire Bible, the Old Testament and the New Testament is the only norm and authority for all matters of faith and life.
Grace Alone - We believe salvation is a free gift from God, totally undeserved and unearned. Jesus Christ suffered God's wrath for us with His death on the cross and canceled our sins in God's sight.
Faith Alone - We believe God works faith in us through Scriptures and the sacraments. Those who believe in Jesus as their Savior live with the assurance of eternal life in heaven.
